Christine Donovan from Illinois plans to bring her foot game to Frisco
The Tug McGraw Foundation (TMF) is co-presenter of the first endurance race coming to Frisco on April 16. Active runners of their established group, Team McGraw, see no boundaries when it comes to participating in the North Texas Community Giving Foundation (NTCGF) event.
Partnerships with purpose drive Christine Donovan’s mission, all the way from Geneva, IL. She runs by encouragement and to honor others. We’re pleased to share her story.
Who do you run for?
The main reason I began was because I wanted my running to “serve a purpose,” not for a time, but to help something bigger than myself.
What does running do for you?
I enjoy running because it gives me the freedom to keep moving; helps to release stress, and it keeps me active and healthy! But I didn’t start actively running, until I was in my late 40’s. This is when I learned of “Team McGraw” through my friend Jeff McMahon, from the Tug McGraw Foundation.
Why will you run the Texas Big Star in Frisco April 2016?
I will be running the Texas Big Star Half Marathon & 5K in Frisco, TX on Sat. April 16th because I believe in and support the Tug McGraw Foundation which is one of the partners of this inaugural race. The TMF was established in 2003 to raise funds and enhance the quality of life for those challenged by brain tumors, brain injuries & trauma, and PTSD.
Why should others #RunBigStar?
I would encourage others to run the Texas Big Star because maybe along the road, they may discover something “new” about their running. But they won’t know until they sign up!
What has been your greatest endurance achievement?
My greatest physical endurance challenge and achievement was hiking the Grand Canyon in 2013 from Rim2Rim, (North to South Rims) in one day… 13 hours and 35 minutes to be exact! This hike was in honor and memory of my friend and Coach, Jenny Hadfield’s brother, Scott. It was the hardest physical endurance challenge I had ever done in my life, but emotionally and spiritually, the most rewarding.
I have been actively involved with the TMF since 2008, primarily through Team McGraw, which is the sports endurance arm of the Foundation. I have run eight half marathons, two 10K’s, three 8K’s, and four 5K’s for Team McGraw. I’ve monetarily supported the Tug McGraw Foundation through my running; cheered and supported others on Team McGraw, or have attended several Foundation fundraising events over the years. Happy running, and be safe!
We look forward to welcoming Christine to Texas!
